ÍY ȻNES QENOṈE HÁLE. It is good to see you all. Welcome to this social networking site where we can read and write SENĆOŦEN. For those visitors to the site, SENĆOŦEN is the traditional language of the people of W̱SÁNEĆ. On maps, W̱SÁNEC is shown as the Saanich Peninsula on Vancouver Island, BC and also includes some of the other islands in the Salish Sea.
The list of the ȽḴALJ or Moons shows the traditional divisions of the W̱SÁNEĆ year and the English months that borrow these names when SENĆOŦEN is applied to the common year. It is important to understand that the traditional moons mark natural changes in the earth and its inhabitants and can’t really be equated to the rigid structure of months in the Gregorian Calendar.

ĆENHENEN - Humpback Salmon Return to the Earth (Used for August)
ĆENŦÁWEN - The Coho Salmon Returns to the Earth (Used for September)
ĆENQOLEW̱ - The Dog Salmon Returns to the Earth (name not used in 12 month calendar)
PEKELÁNEW̱ - The Moon that Turns the Leaves White (Used for October)
WESELÁNEW̱ - Shaker of the Leaves (Used for November)
SJELȻÁSEṈ - Moon of Putting Your Paddle Away in the Bush (Used for December)
SISET - The Elder Moon (Used for January)
